Cymbidium Mosaic Virus (CyMV) is probably the most prevalent of the viruses found in cultivated orchids. Like most other orchid viruses, CyMV is almost never found in wild orchids. However, this virus has been found in almost every genus of cultivated orchids. This virus is spread throughout or chid collections through contaminated tools and pots. Cymbidium Mosaic Virus is a good immunogen, giving very strong responses using ELISA. Therefore, CyMV can still be detected in infected plants, although they may exhibit no viral symptoms.
